If you’re planning on purchasing a home, it is always a good idea to ensure that the property has a good return to investment, this means that even though you are purchasing a home, should you choose to sell in the future you can recoup the expenses you spent and then some. Likewise, if you are looking to sell a home, it always a bonus, if you have a highly coveted property type as this, will help in your listing selling faster and for a higher price tag. Both of these things are often achieved when it comes to single-story homes.

There are a few different reasons why single-story homes sell the fastest, and many buyers will purchase a single-story home just knowing that should they choose to sell later down the line, they have a better chance of selling at a faster rate and for a higher dollar amount. Here are three of the main reasons single-story homes, or ramblers, sell faster than other home types.

They Fit All Ages and Capabilities

When you eliminate the need for stairs you open up your demographic of potential buyers ten-fold. Families with young children who are fearful of the accidents that stairs may provide are more likely to purchase single-story homes. Those who may have physical ailments who may be unable to use the stairs on a daily basis will nearly always purchase single-story homes. Those who purchase a home where they plan to grow old will also tend to lean toward a single-story vs. multi-story home.

They Allow for an Open Floor Plan

When all the rooms are on a single-story, oftentimes you have a more cohesive and open floor plan. While this isn’t always the case, single-story homes can oftentimes feel more open and airier than multi-level homes.

They Regulate Temperatures Better

We all know the saying, heat rises. With that being said, when it comes to a single-story home you don’t have to worry about the second level of the home being hotter than the lower level during summer months. With two-story homes there can be up to an 8-10-degree difference between floor levels which can make it difficult to heat or cool the home effectively and efficiently. One floor will always be too hot or too cold.
