Whether you are planning a summer trip or looking to move to the area, here are some fantastic attractions and events in and around the Palm Desert, CA area.

Disneyland

Location: 1313 Disneyland Drive, Anaheim, CA

Let's start with a big one! Disneyland is less than two hours from Palm Desert so if you don't mind the drive, staying outside of the Anaheim area will be less costly and you will enjoy more space and amenities for your money.

Summer is the perfect time to enjoy the theme parks while kids are out on break. To minimize the stress of so much excitement from the "Happiest Place on Earth", reserve park days with a day of rest in between to relax by the pool and do something local in Palm Desert.

The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens

Location: 47900 Portola Avenue, Palm Desert, CA

This local zoo and aquarium has been an attraction in the Palm Springs area for nearly fifty years. The Living Desert Zoo is open during the summer from 7:30am - 1:30pm daily, and is a great way to learn about animals, their habitats and climate.

The zoo takes two to three hours to explore, and parking is free, so this is a great activity to do with the family and then return to where you are staying and cool down in the pool.

Shields Date Garden

Location: 80225 US Highway 111, Indio, CA

California is known for its great dates so here is a fun place to see the process of growing dates, just ten minutes out of Palm Desert. The Shields Date Garden, a family-owned, historic date palm orchard is open to the public and features a shop, cafe, walk and theater.

You can purchase dates, date crystal infused coffee, local fruits and vegetables as well as other fun specialty items. Inside the theater, you can see "The Romance and Sex Life of the Date", a creatively titled film presentation about the history of date cultivation.

The cafe is closed during the month of July and first week of August, but there's still plenty to do with the shop, theater and walk, which features 14 scenes and 23 statues that chronologized the life of Christ. These statues were moved from their original home, a biblical garden in Vancouver, Canada, to Shields Date Garden in 2013.

Wet and Wild Palm Springs

Location: 1500 S. Gene Autry Trl, Palm Springs, CA

Known as one of America's largest water parks, Wet and Wild Palm Springs is just twenty minutes away from Palm Desert and is sure to be a hit with the kids and the grown-up's, too!

Packed with fun waterslides, swimming pools, whirlpools and jacuzzies, there are activities to play hard or just lounge by the pool with a drink and a book. Either way, the California weather is wonderful in the summer and there's not a better place to enjoy the sun than next to a pool.

No matter what your summer plans involve, Palm Desert is a great place to spend some time and getaway.
